Personal Life

Mr. Smith was born and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana. He has been married to Morgan James Smith since 2014 and they have one son. Outside of work, Mr. Smith enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, golf, and supporting Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns athletics.

Phillip M. Smith

Phillip M. Smith joined the firm in 2016. His practice is focused primarily on maritime law and personal-injury litigation. He regularly defends clients in Jones Act cases, oil and gas casualties, vessel claims, platform injuries, property damage disputes, construction litigation, products liability, and employment matters. He serves on the Firm’s recruiting committee, and he volunteers as coach for the LSU Law Admiralty Moot Court External Team.

 

Mr. Smith is committed to serving his community through pro bono work, and he volunteers with the Lafayette Bar Foundation to provide free legal representation to survivors of domestic abuse. Mr. Smith also volunteers his time with Catholic Charities of Acadiana and the Archdiocese of New Orleans to assist unaccompanied immigrant children obtain legal protection in the United States from abuse, abandonment, neglect, and violence in their home countries.
